One Punch Man is considered a great anime by many, and its recently released video game adaptation, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows follows the game's offbeat humor and grand action very closely. From its awesome opening cinematic to the heroes and villains that populate the world, it's an accurate adaptation of the show. However, one of its heroes is a little problematic for a game of this nature.
The main character of One Punch Man is Saitama, and despite the unassuming name, he is indeed powerful enough to defeat any foe in a single punch, a fact that he deeply laments, and one that tips the scales completely in his favor in a fighting game. To make up for that, actually unlocking him for the game's Free Mode, is a bit of a process. For those who simply must have the power of the One-Hit KO, here's how to unlock Saitama.
Those who want to play as full-strength Saitama rather than Dream Saitama, One Punch Man's preorder bonus, will have to play a decent chunk of Story Mode. The player's avatar will need to raise their Contribution Level within the Hero's Association to 3,000 which is accomplished by completing various side quests. This will help unlock other things for players, including other heroes and villains for the roster along the way, too.
After reaching the 3,000 mark, players will receive a request for aid, which will lead them to a scene straight out of the anime: the cyborg Genos being pummelled by Mosquito Girl. Powered up by a ton of blood, she can KO the player very quickly, but if players can survive long enough, Saitama will appear to send her flying. Since this is actually a main story mission, it will also go towards completing the first two Chapters, which leads to unlocking One Punch Man's multiplayer mode.
With Mosquito Girl swatted, the player will have to take on more odd jobs to raise their Contribution Level by another 1,000 all the way up to 4,000 total.
Reaching 4000 Contribution points issues the player a quest to defeat a monster, but by the time they get there, it will already be defeated by Saitama and Genos. Saitama decides that Genos needs his own apprentice, the player. Genos and the player's avatar will have to team up to take down the Vicious Monster. Fortunately, the player has Genos, one of One Punch Man's S-Class Heroes, to help them.
Beating the Vicious Monster unlocks a Back Alley where players will find the Appraiser. After talking with him and accepting the mission that comes after, an ambush by an Overbearing Monster occurs. It's another survival fight, with Saitama swooping in to save the player, and then save them again from the next monster. After that, Saitama will be unlocked. All that trouble just to get the guy who beat Crablante that one time.
One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
