Capcom is rumored to be actively working on both Marvel vs. Capcom 4 and Street Fighter 6, a new unreliable report claims. Professional fighting game player FChamp, who was recently banned from competition by Capcom, revealed the news in a recent livestream. Fchamp claims that he had friends in Capcom in past years and that those friends confirmed that both Marvel vs. Capcom 4 and Street Fighter 6 are in the works. Their exact status as of mid-2020 remains unclear, however.
FChamp says that this information comes from early 2019, though he does share some surprising recent information, too. As of early 2019, Capcom was said to be in contact with Marvel talking about which characters can be used in Marvel vs. Capcom 4. For the time being, Capcom is working on movesets and functions for characters, but still need to receive approval from Marvel.
With regards to Street Fighter 6, an announcement was rumored to be made during a Street Fighter 5 event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The delay of the Olympics has apparently also led to a delay of the Street Fighter 6 announcement.
He goes on to describe that COVID-19 has delayed production for both projects, though it doesn't provide any specific details. He does say that COVID-19 has led to Capcom deciding to extend the lifespan of Street Fighter 5 with new seasons and DLC. He sees Capcom doing 18 months or two more years of Street Fighter 5, though even that could be extended depending on the status of COVID-19.
The reliability of FChamp's comments is absolutely in question. First FChamp says that he learned this information from friends at Capcom in early 2019, but he goes on to describe details about Capcom's current plans. It's unclear if he's heard new information from different sources or if he's speculating about these details, or if he's simply confusing old information for new information.
The possibility of both Marvel vs. Capcom 4 and Street Fighter 6 being in development, even at the same time, isn't out of this world. It's clearly time for a new Street Fighter game to be made, with the previous game's popularity dropping in recent years. A Marvel vs. Capcom sequel seems less likely due to the issues Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite faced. That doesn't mean that both Capcom and Marvel wouldn't like a sequel, however. Without further information about either game, however, these rumored games should definitely be considered with high skepticism.
