Indie Dev Makes 'PS5 Simulator' Game So You Can Pretend to Own One

Players are hard at work discovering the outer limits of the PlayStation 5. Games are being played to completion, hardware limits are being tested, and DualSense controller memes are running rampant.

Of course, not everyone has gotten to enjoy the PS5's triumphs and problems yet. The console is notoriously tricky to get even now. Pre-orders were a sloppy mess back when they went live, and limited supply has not helped matters. Still, for all those who have been craving the feeling of owning a PS5, one intrepid indie game maker has a solution. That solution comes in the form of PS5 Simulator.

The game is a 3D simulation of what it's like to be the proud owner of a brand new PS5. It's delivered to the player's house in a cardboard box. The player must remove the PS5 from the box and properly set it up at their TV which can be a bit of a hassle. Sadly, the game does not contain instructions on how to stop the PS5 from overheating, and since the console is often placed on a carpet in-game, that would prove a real problem.

All the hassles and little things that come with owning a new console make an appearance, as do some ridiculous ones. The in-game avatar receives three controllers, but two of them are not PS5 controllers. They must find exactly the right snacks in the kitchen, even though Doritos bags are everywhere. And they forget to put the game disk in to start playing. Since many PS4 games are incompatible with the PS5, they go for a PS5 original: Knack 3. Players never actually get to see what the game looks like, no doubt because it's too advanced for whatever non-PS5 system PS5 Simulator happens to be running on at the time.

There are a few winks and nods in the game to various things, including one for Team Fortress 2. The old Sony logo and original PlayStation logo decorate the screen instead of the new ones for the PS5. And, as mentioned above, the game loads Knack 3 so fast the game is over too fast to play. While this isn't a known PS5 problem, it's not too far from one The Witcher 3 has on Xbox Series X.

Another amusing thing, although not directly a reference, is that the house the game takes place in is exactly the same as cult hit House Party. Not one of the PS5's best launch games, but worth checking out for a laugh, a state that also describes PS5 Simulator perfectly.

PS5 Simulator is available for PC.
