It has been a busy holiday season for fans of DeNA's mobile game Pokemon Masters EX. There are two ongoing story events, one introducing Pokemon Black and White's N and another for seasonal winter-themed characters; an Egg event featuring Fire, Rock, and Bug-type Pokemon; and the Champion Stadium feature recently updated to include members of the Johto Elite Four. However, that's apparently not all the game has in store for the end of 2020.
The official Pokemon Masters Twitter account announced a New Year's-themed story event, called "Season's Greetings," will begin immediately after the Christmas-inspired "Deck the Halls" event ends on December 31 at 10:00 p.m. PT. The two alternate costumed characters at the center of this upcoming event will be Elite Four member-turned-Champion Lance alongside Sun and Moon companion Lillie.
Unlike previous announcements for major events in the mobile game, Pokemon Masters has not yet specified which Pokemon the two characters will be paired with - though based on Lance's dialogue in the short clip released on Twitter, it seems he may have Gyarados as a Sync Pair partner. Regardless, the story will center around the somewhat mismatched couple of trainers in kimono searching for cards to send to their loved ones.
A development update released by producers Yu Sakai and Tetsuya Iguchi on December 16 teased a New Year's event, but provided no insight into which Pokemon will be included. However, it does let fans know they can expect a support rally for the release of Skyla's six-star upgrade on January 10, 2021, followed by a Valentine's Day event in February. In the meantime, Nintendo mobile game players can also celebrate New Year's Eve in Mario Kart Tour, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Pokemon GO.
Pokemon Masters EX is available now on Android and iOS devices.
