Even before the console launched worldwide, the PS5 has been in extreme high demand. With scalpers reselling the console at ridiculously high prices, consoles getting lost in the mail, and various other issues, it has been nigh-impossible for anyone to get their hands on a PS5. However, it appears one retailer in particular may be getting a console restock very soon.
Many physical and online retailers like Best Buy, GameStop, and Amazon have been struggling to keep up with the high demand of the PS5. Back when pre-orders for the console launched in October, it sold out almost immediately, and having been out for almost two months the demand for Sony's next-gen console has shown absolutely no sign of dwindling. However, that isn't to say that the console is unavailable everywhere.
PS5 units are always in production and retailers are getting restocked periodically. In fact, according to Twitter user YtNextGenGaming, within the next two weeks Target may be restocking its shelves with PS5 units. Specifically the base PS5, not the digital edition of the console, according to the user's Tweet posted on December 30.
It's nice to know that Target may have PS5s available to purchase soon, if the information is to be believed. The demand for next-gen tech is arguably higher than it has ever been. As a likely result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals particularly in the US are still working from home or under lockdown, so enjoying a next-gen system is something many people would like to do. On top of this, given how many months people have had to remain under quarantine, it's possible a lot of people are only now getting into video games as a way of passing the time.
Unfortunately, this high demand for next-gen consoles has led to a lot of different problems. While multiple Amazon customers have had their console units arrive early, many of them have received the exact opposite. One customer even ended up receiving bottled water instead of an Xbox Series X.
In any case, hopefully in the coming months the demand for the console will start to die down, and purchasing one won't be nearly as stressful or crazy. This year should certainly be big year for the PS5, with the release of many next-gen games on the horizon including God of War: Ragnarok, Resident Evil 8, and Final Fantasy 16. Needless to say, PlayStation fans have a lot to look forward to in the months to come.
The PS5 is available now.
