Valkyrae Beats Pokimane to Become Most-Watched Female Streamer

Rachel Hofstetter, better known as Valkyrae, relocated from Twitch to YouTube at the start of 2020 and it has proven to be an advantageous move for the streamer. The start of 2021 has been rocky due to OfflineTV Rust server drama, but the streamer most recently received a surprise birthday party while in-game with friends. Overall, Valkyrae appears to not be slowing down, and recent streaming data proves that.

Social distancing and quarantining played a part in the blossoming success of the streamer, although most of it is due to Valkyrae's Among Us streams. Among Us was one of the quickest-growing titles in terms of popularity throughout 2020, which helped Valkyrae become the fastest-growing streamer in the world. Since then, she has established herself as a variety streamer, catering to her fans and the wider streaming community by playing what they want to see.

Almost a year after her move to YouTube, a report from Stream Hatchet shows that Valkyrae is the most-viewed female streamer with over 23.6 million hours watched total, just beating out Twitch streamer Imane "Pokimane" Anys. What's particularly remarkable is the small margin by which Valkyrae has pulled ahead over the last year.

Stream Hatchet released a graphic that makes it more clear just how tight of a race this was, as Valkyrae managed to beat Pokimane by just .3 million hours watched. That's more or less 300,000 hours, which may seem like a lot, but with the millions of hours shared between the two the number is comparatively small.

With Valkyrae just shy of 24 million hours watched in 2020, the report concludes that female streamers are growing in popularity, and the gap is continuing to close between top female and male streamers. Across all streamers, Valkyrae placed within the top 100 at number 63, a great mark for what has been mostly male-dominated field via the likes of xQc and summit1g. Stream Hatchet also reports that Valkyrae had an overwhelmingly successful 2020, growing over 7,304 percent in hours watched from January to December.

According to the report, live streaming viewership overall shot up 69 percent in 2020, and went up 81 percent from 2019. According to a poll, 30 percent of video game viewers are female, but only 2 percent of the top 250 Twitch influencers are female. That said, by the end of 2021, that statistic may be an entirely different story.

Anyone could have predicted that 2020 would be a great year for Valkyrae following her immediate boost in growth back in October, but becoming the top female streamer within three months is an amazing feat.
