Destiny 2 starts a new season on February 9, called Season of the Chosen. It will continue the narrative of Season of the Hunt and introduce a new leader to the Cabal, Caiatl. Meanwhile, many of the game's activities will get new loot and ways of progressing. Trials of Osiris will be getting new weapons, armor, and even cosmetics with the start of Season 13.
Almost a year ago, Trials of Osiris launched in Destiny 2 for the first time, replacing Trials of the Nine. The game mode saw some changes compared to its original Destiny counterpart, mostly in the loot systems. The loot pool was comprised of gear available in Destiny 1, with a few cosmetic touch ups and perk changes.
Bungie amends this by adding brand new weapons to Trials alongside fresh armor sets, a Ghost, Ship, and Sparrow. The new loot will start becoming available with the first Trials weekend of Season 13 on February 12. Each week a selection from the updated loot pool will be earnable, given the player can achieve its win milestones.
However, Saint-14's weekly engram bounty will also be available for those who can't stack up wins in Destiny 2's Trials. This bounty progresses even if the player loses all of their matches, and awards a copy of the item available from the three-win milestone in a given week. Thus, even less skilled players can get a taste of the new loot by completing the weekly engram bounties.
As for the new weapons, there is a Hand Cannon, a Sword, and a Pulse Rifle that may or may not be a refurbished version of The Messenger. The Hand Cannon seems to be Solar energy from the gameplay trailer. The sword is also Solar, but more importantly, it uses the Caster Frame, a rare sword archetype that can shoot area-of-effect projectiles.
These weapons will have Adept versions as well, following the same Adept weapon system introduced with Beyond Light. Moreover, it will be possible to apply the exclusive shader that comes with the Adept Trials to any Adept weapon, such as the ones that come from Nightfall Strikes. Adept weapons will start dropping form the Flawless chest starting week two of Trials, with the first week only dropping armor and Adept mods.
The new Trials cosmetics work a little bit differently this time around. The new Ghost's drop chance increases as the player wins matches or completes the weekly three, five, or seven win and flawless milestones. The Ship and Sparrow's drop chances increase only when the player goes flawless.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
