Doom Eternal takes the Doom Slayer to Earth, where it has been consumed by the forces of Hell. It is his job to eliminate the hellish demons that raise Hell on the surface of the planet. He will rip and tear as much as he can, but it will not change the fact that these demons are capable of the same.
id Software has created a gorgeous game even though most of the beauty comes from the insides of the Doom Slayer's victims. All of those victims or demons are also brilliantly designed in a way that should strike fear into any player.
10 Mancubus
The mancubus is one of the earliest enemies introduced in Doom Eternal's long campaign, but it does not make it any less terrifying. This fat, lumbering demon is equipped with flamethrowers on each of its arms. From a distance, the mancubus is easy to handle.
However, if you get too close to this overweight creature, then it will surround itself in argent energy, which can deal significant damage. Keep your distance, target the hand canons, and you may just escape to the next area.
9 Revenant
Doom Eternal starts you off with very simple demons: soldiers, imps, and standard zombies. The threat of demons ramps up quickly, and one of them literally rises to the occasion, the revenant. These skeleton husks are equipped with jetpacks and missiles.
The revenant is a classic demon from the original Doom games. 2020's graphic capabilities make this creature stand out from others. The last thing anyone would want is a flying demon chasing them down with homing missiles. This is one demon you better hope stays in Hell.
8 Pain Elemental
With a bulbous floating body and multiple mandibles comprising its mouth, the pain elemental is easily a scary demon. Its design is derived from the cacodemon, which is it's less terrifying demon cousin. Not only does this demon have an extremely hard bite, but it also throws lost souls at your brittle human body.
During a firefight, the pain elemental will most likely be one of your biggest problems. The lost souls can deal significant damage, which requires you to keep moving. Target this creature early in a fight in order to eliminate it fast and then move on to more terrifying demons.
7 Dread Knight
Hell knights are large, muscular creatures focused on melee damage. More specifically, they will pound the ground near the Doom Slayer. Well, if you thought this creature was terrifying, then you obviously have not met his brother, dread knight.
Dread knight is the cybernetic version of the hell knight. He is equipped with argent energy blades on both of his arms. He also slams the ground near you but creates pools of argent energy near him, which can cause even more damage. In addition, they have more health and will relentlessly stay on the Doom Slayer's ass.
6 Whiplash
Doom's first female demon is no less terrifying than the first. Whiplash is a long centipede or snake-like demon that loves nothing more than flanking the player and using whip attacks. It also does not help that this creature will continuously avoid approaching the player from the front.
Above all, whiplash is the scariest demon in the middle of a chaotic fight. She will work her way around the Doom Slayer to strike. During the fight, players may see glimpses of her tail or red eyes. Regardless of what they see, they need to be ready to strike her back.
5 Fireborne Baron
2016's Doom introduced the Doom Slayer to the Baron of Hell. Well, id software felt like his scarier and more menacing brother was missing out on the party. The Fireborne Baron is a much stronger and more equipped demon. Underneath its skin, a fire burns as hot as the ones in Hell. The same fires are what give the Fireborne Baron a sharp blade on each arm.
As the Doom Slayer shoots the Fireborne Baron, its skin begins to fall off like armor. The fires underneath then begin to show, which reveals this demon's true driving force. The fires of Hell are certainly what created this demon and is the reason it seeks to destroy the Doom Slayer.
4 Arachnotron
The arachnotron is the last spider you want crawling on your wall. This demon is an early enemy type in the Doom Eternal, but its design is one of the most grotesque. This creature takes the shape of a spider and scorpion. It is capable of launching missiles from its salvos and projectiles from its scorpion-like tail.
Most importantly, the look of the creature is more than enough to shake the Doom Slayer in his boots. Arachnotrons take the shape of an oversized human brain. At the front of it, two glowing eyes, a razor-sharp jaw, and two mandibles greet you. Just the look of this demon will make you want to squash it in an instant.
3 Tyrant
The tyrant is the predecessor of Doom 2016's cyberdemon. Both creatures are amped up through cybernetic enhancements, such as one arm being an entire laser canon. The tyrant stands at least ten feet tall. His staggering stature is nothing to scoff at as his size truly represents his capabilities. Tyrants are introduced later on in Doom Eternal, and they most definitely meet the expectations of late-game demons.
The tyrant is not a fast-moving demon, but he is capable of a lot of damage. His laser canon can easily eliminate the Doom Slayer in an instant. He may be slow, but if you get too close, he is still capable of great damage. The tyrant's stature and demon design makes him a force to be reckoned with.
2 Doom Hunter
The doom hunter is first introduced as a boss in Doom Eternal, but soon after, it becomes a recurring enemy type. Even though it's presence is so common, the demon is still horrifying to deal with and look at. Similar to the tyrant, its arms have been converted into canons. At the same time, it can launch homing missiles at the Doom Slayer.
Finally, you can top all of that off with an energy shield protecting its grotesque body. This creature takes a long time to eliminate. The energy shield stays down for only so long, so the Doom Slayer needs to act fast. Once enough damage is dealt, its bottom half will detach, and it will start flying around even more ferociously.
1 Marauder
The first time the marauder walks through the hell portal is the first time the Doom Slayer genuinely seems concerned for his life. Every subsequent appearance causes the heart in the player to simply drop to their gut. Marauders are the most difficult enemy demon in Doom Eternal.
They are significantly more intelligent than any other recurring demon. Furthermore, the marauder cannot be killed with the BFG 9000 or the crucible blade. Instead, players must wait for his eyes to glow green and then strike. Simply put, the marauder will make you pee your pants.
